Ingrid Sassenhagen
postdoctoral fellow in Phytoplankton Molecular Ecology
CV
Education and work experience
since January 2018
postdoctoral fellow
Université du Littoral Côte d'Opale, Laboratoire d’Océanologie et de Géosciences, France
laboratory of Prof. Urania Christaki
I am studying the impact of protistan parasites on phytoplankton communities in the English Channel and the Southern Ocean.

September 2015 - November 2017
postdoctoral fellow
Marine Science Institute, The University of Texas at Austin, USA
laboratory of Prof. Deana Erdner
I studied the population genetic structure of different Gambierdiscus species, which cause Ciguatera Fish Poisoning, in the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean.
April 2011 - June 2015
PhD student
Aquatic Ecology, Lund University, Sweden
laboratory of Prof. Karin Rengefors
I studied dispersal barriers and population genetic structure of the freshwater raphidophyte Gonyostomum semen with emphasis on local adaptation, priority effects and phenotypic plasticity. Additionally, I was involved in several studies on the bloom forming marine diatom Skeletonema marinoi in collaboration with Gothenburg University and the Nordic Research Network Prodiversa.
September 2005 - November 2010
Biology studies
University of Rostock, Germany
I conducted the research for my Master's thesis (German Diploma) in the unit Applied Ecology at the University of Rostock, studying the taxonomy of filamentous cyanobacteria in an estuary of the Baltic Sea.
September 2008 - January 2009
Erasmus exchange student
Institute of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics, University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands
Master courses in "Ecology and Evolution" and "Limnology and Oceanography"
